Why the Proposed Mount Coot-tha Course Will Be the Hardest Parkrun in the World

Why the Proposed Mount Coot-tha Course Will Be the Hardest Parkrun in the World

Move over, brutal hills. Brisbane is about to claim the title for the single most punishing 5k weekend event on the planet. Local running legend Steve Manning (intraining) has officially put forward a proposal to the Brisbane City Council for a brand-new trail Parkrun at Mount Coot-Tha. The proposed route starts at the JC Slaughter Falls picnic area, grids straight up the Mahogany fire trail to the summit lookout, and returns back down. As Steve openly told the running community: "It could make it the steepest parkrun in existence so not a PB course."

The Ultimate Test of Knee Grease

At Knee Grease, our whole philosophy is that elbow grease is work, but knee grease is sport. We design apparel for athletes who aren't shy about the effort they put in. And running a 5k with that kind of vertical elevation up a fire trail requires pure, unadulterated knee grease. You don't get paid for trail running, but a vertical grind like Mahogany trail pays out in massive bragging rights. To celebrate what will undoubtedly become an iconic piece of Australian running history, we are actively drawing up a dedicated Knee Grease "Slaughter Falls Club" range.

The Summit Club Range

We are designing some fun trail apparel — including lightweight performance singlets for the heat of the climb, and premium, heavyweight hoodies and boxy tees for the post-run coffee order. Once the route is officially live, we will be launching a dedicated segment challenge on our Knee Grease Strava Club. Log your Slaughter Falls run, survive the steepest fire trail in the world, and you'll unlock 20% off any of the range. (It's the only way to get a discount at Knee Grease. You gotta earn it).

How to Support the Route

To make this trail freak’s dream a reality, Steve Manning needs a dedicated local team of 4 Run Directors and at least 12 volunteers to commit to the first few months. Knee Grease will. If you want to see the world's most brutal Parkrun hit your doorstep, look up the intraining club notices, put your hand up to volunteer. See you at JC Slaughter Falls.

Test yourself.
